    Hershey's Chocolate World's New Attraction for 2010

    Post  Ccron10 on Fri Jan 15, 2010 7:55 pm

I guess it's been awhile since Chocolate World has added a new major attraction.

Chocolate World to add create-your-own-candy-bar attraction by summer

View full sizeAn artist's rendering of the new make-your-own candy bar attraction at Hershey's Chocolate World.By summer, visitors to Hershey’s Chocolate World in Derry Township will have the opportunity to play chocolate innovators and create their own candy bars.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held today at Chocolate World where construction is under way on a 1,800-square-foot expansion project at the tourist attraction. The brick two-story addition will fill space in the front of Chocolate World near the center’s parking lot.

The interactive Create Your Own Candy Bar is a natural progression for Chocolate World, which opened in 1973 and replaced the Hershey Company’s on-site factory tours, said Amy Hahn, general manager of The Hershey Experience.

Visitors will track their custom candy bars from beginning to end at various stations in the factory-like setting, she said.

Guests, wearing factory aprons and hairnets, will select and load ingredients such as caramel bits, graham crackers and crisped rice and pull levers and handles to dispense the ingredients via equipment similar to machinery used in Hershey’s factories.

The five-ounce bars will be cooled and wrapped in custom packaging created by guests. The price of the attraction is expected to be $12.95, Hahn said.

$13 sounds kind of a rip-off if you ask me, but the concept seems cool.

I agree that the cost seems high. Before I got to the cost, I thought it was a very cool idea. With all the new attractions at Chocolate World that cost extra the 3D movie, Trolley Tour, Tasting experience, and now this, it is becoming very expensive to take it all in. Chocolate World should consider the cost as a whole and realize that it is unreasonable for a tourist who might wish to do all of these things with a family on a once a year trip. I think a combo ticket is in order or a revision of the prices of the individual attractions.

I saw this on the news a couple of days a go. Im still confused where exactly it will be, will part of the parking lot and sidewalk be removed?

^^ I agree. Back in my grade school days, I remember going to the Hospital for my yearly medical check-up then heading over to Chocolate World to ride the tour ride which was a big thing for me. These days, they now have Factory Works, and the 3D Show and I kind of think it's a bit costly for a family if you are new to the area and want to do all that.
I have never seen the 3D Show or been in Factory Works. Heck! I don't think I ever went over to the new side where the Kit Kat Cafe is (at least not for awhile).

$13 for a customized 5 oz. chocolate bar is outrageous (hopefully it's not one bar). Basically the cost of all the candy there is since you are "buying it from the source".

It's times like this that it is a good thing the chocolate company doesn't own the theme park.

^If I remember correctly, there is a grassy area between the drop-off/pick-up area and the building. I'm guessing from the looks of it, they are just using that narrow stretch of land.

They're expanding the front of the building out towards the parking lot (where the Factory Works sign was on the exterior). Sidewalk appears to either not be touched or be re-directed for the extension, not removed completely. Looks like the Kit-Kat Cafe will also be expanded on the second floor to accomodate this. It also looks like (according to the one drawing) that there will also be access from the outside as well? I'll be up there the first Saturday next month (Choc-Covered Feb) so I'll probably have some kind of construction pics of what's going on as far as the exterior goes.

Another thing, I'm wondering if that section of Chocolate World is still called "Factory Works". I haven't seen it on the official site. I'm wondering if the entrance to that section will also be re-done to accomodate this.

Instead of making a new topic, I took some pictures of Chocolate World construction.

I saw Casting Crowns on Sunday at the Giant Center, before the show I went over to Chocolate World. This is what I found.

Nice pictures! I have to get myself to Chocolate World at some point. It's been a few years.

The site doesn't look that much different than when I saw it back on February 6th. I'm guessing the weather isn't helping that much.

On March 19 I went to a Bears game, so I took a trip to Chocolate World beforehand. Not much of a difference from the last post. They have some work to do before the summer.

Looks like it's coming along nice. That's the size I figured it would be.

I actually thought it would be bigger. Its not much of an expansion. Although I am expecting it to look really nice when its done.

More of a small addition, rahter than expansion - if there's a difference lol.
