Fahrenheit vs. Storm Runner: The battle of the Intamins

Post  coasterbilly on Thu Jun 10, 2010 1:47 am

So I was just pming Matt all day (since I just joined the boards haha) and we got on this discussion about Fahrenheit vs. Storm Runner. Not many parks (with the exception of Cedar Point) can say they have more then 1 Intamin at their park, but even Cedar Point's can't be compared very easily because they are all different types. While HP's 2 Intamins are different types, they definitely can be compared easier because the only difference in the 2 is that one launches and the other goes up a vertical lift with a beyond vertical drop, the rest is fair game. So I just wanted to start a poll of which do you prefer and why, is the launch, speed, and power of Storm Runner? Or is it the crazy vertical lift, pacing, and awesome inversions of Fahrenheit, I have yet to really have an edge over the other but I'm determined to get it down this season (since I've failed ever since Fahrenheit opened). Let the discussion and voting begin!

I've made it a 3-way tie with even, in terms of enjoyment and excitement. They're definitely not even in capabilities or many other ways, however.
Stormrunner is great because it's one of the few launched coasters with inversions - I think it's the only one the last time I checked. It's a thrill, especially because of where it is placed in the park.
Fahrenheit is great, too. I wish it was a bit more spread out, though. It has a great drop and inversions, especially the little hop a the end. Smile

They're both two of my favorite rides at the park so I really can't put one over the other. But I must say the following do have their pros and cons:

    STORM RUNNER
    Pros:
    -Excellent launch
-Very intense throughout the ride (I thought so even more on my most recent ride on Sunday)
-Quick load/unload /w/ dueling loading station when both sides are running
-Flying Snake Dive - complete airtime! Definitely love the feeling!

    Cons:
-Load/unload can be slow when one side of station is closed
-On-ride photo isn't in the best place for a coaster.
-Too short for such an excellent ride
-No Single Rider's Line for busy days

    FAHRENHEIT
    Pros:
-Excellent lift hill, very intense IMO
    -First drop, very intense
-Love the airtime hill, such a good feeling through that one!
-Such a great ride in a very small, compact space
-Single Rider's Line can be a help on busy days if they decide to open it.

    Cons:
-Load/unload can be slow due to low capcity, thus making the waits bad on busy days.
    -Three car trains, low capacity

That's my two-cants on what I have to say about both rides. Curious on what others have to say.

I like Fahrenheit better, but if SR didn't whip your head around at the end of the ride, I would like it better.

the first 2 guys to reply, I'm in your boat most definitely. But tatertot3710 brings up a big point, Storm Runner is definitely rougher, now the ride IS 6 years old now, so does this take SR down some notches to people? My last ride I certainly had some pretty beat up shoulders but obviously the ride is still nothing short of amazing, what do we think in comparison of the inversions between the two??

Storm Runner's Flying Snake Dive doesn't even compare to Fahrenheit's cobra roll. I do like Fahrenheit's Norweign loop though and the corkscrews aren't that bad either.

yeah the Snake Dive is nasty, that's where it's the roughest though Sad , I think the Norweign Loop is one of my favorite elements on any ride out there, plus how smooth the cobra roll and the corkscrews are, I think I give the edge to Fahrenheit when it comes to inversions

My vote goes to Fahrenheit. The lift and first drop are amazing as are the inversions and final airtime hill.

Storm Runner is 100% better than Fahrenheit. It's one of their best roller coasters.

It's very close but I am gonna have to go with Fahrenheit. Storm Runners launch and top hat just own the begining of FH but after that I just think the ride is just so so. There is some headbanging and while it is intence, which I like, it doesn't have very good pacing at all. FH may have smaller capacity but between the 97* drop, airtime hill, and corkscrews, FH just beats out Storm Runner.

After bringing all of these thoughts and points out, Fahrenheit is leading for me, just got to go back and ride em both yet again to finally pick. Storm Winder why do you say 100% Storm Runner? Just curious

I love both! However, Fahrenheit gets the nod and my personal #2 coaster spot in my list just from the drop alone. It's just unbelievable. Also, the airtime hill after the overbank makes me giggle like a school girl.
