(2/22/11) Screamscape has heard an interesting rumor that Kennywood may be considering holding some kind of winter season event in late 2011 in an attempt to extend their operating season past Halloween. Anyone know more?

(10/2/10) While nothing firm has come from the park yet, we’ve heard once again that Garfield may need to find a new home this winter and The Old Mill may take on a new theme for 2011.

Garfield's Nightmare wasn't that bad in my opinion, but it took away from the historic aspect of the ride.

As for the possible off-season event, sounds like a good idea in my opinion.

Are they planning on restoring it back to its former glory?

KPConnection visited the park recently and got a chance to see what's occuring during the off-season. It also looks like nothing much has happened reguarding Garfield's Nightmare being turned back into the Old Mill. A little disappointing, but no big deal.

Is there any word on whether or not the Turnpike will return? I know Kennywood said they were planning to bring it back.

I think they said either 2011 or 2012 when they removed it at the end on 2009. I know a few sources said that the lighting and entrance fence remained all of last year making me think that they'd re-install it under Sky Rocket, but I don't know if that's even possible anymore. I'm sure they'll find another spot in the park for it.

I actualy really like Garfield's Nightmare, and am glad they're keeping it as is for this year at least.

Hope the turnpike cars come back too...never had a chance to ride them but it looked like a nice and long layout.

Screamscape:

(6/14/11) This just may be a crazy rumor at the moment…but I’m going to throw it out there just in case. A reader tells me that during a visit to Kennywood the other day the park’s Pittfall (Intamin Giant Drop) was only running half of its cars. After chatting about it with the ride ops they were told that this season was expected to be the last year for the ride at the park. Can anyone else confirm this? I’m a bit surprised at this idea myself, as I remember Pittfall having one of the more intimidating views from the top of the tower of just about any tower ride anywhere.

I really hope this is not true. This was an insane ride when I rode it back in 2009.

It may have to do with the ride being a maintenance nightmare from what I've heard.

Some of the former Paramount Parks as well as a few Six Flags parks still have theirs. It can't be that hard to upkeep.

It's a popular ride, but if you keep watch on them, they have a lot of down time, more than a lot of other rides. It's just like the Huss Condor rides.

Also, and I hate to say it, but evidently it was for Kentucky Kingdom. Their failure of upkeep was the direct cause of the accident the other year.
