The BBC has been covering the story nicely.
While the images show massive destruction, I've noticed that many people haven't been panicing or roiting which is good. Over 200 or 300 people have been killed, 500 are missing at this point. Some reports that waves as high as 30 feet washed ashore. Tsunami waves of one or two feet have hit Hawaii, but as far as the westcoast of the US, I haven't heard much yet.
This may sound disasterous (which it is), but given how much more technology-advanced their country is, they will probably be able to recover faster than what the US could handle.
Tokyo Disneyland has closed and now over 60,000 people in both parks, the parking lot had been flooded and has suffered damage. No word on if anything else on the property has sustained damage.
