If they both are closed they put both Twin Turnpike:Sports Cars and Twin Turnpike: Classic Cars up on the closed page as two seperate rides. (Because they are). When one is closed and not the other, that one is listed. I have no idea why the Sports Cars were not listed, but they WERE closed.

I don't know. Looks like there was only one wheel that derailed. Maybe the axle broke?

So I made it to Hershey and Christmas Candylane. We visited Candylane on Sunday and Monday. All rides were open on Sunday, and the Kissing Tower was the only ride closed on Monday. (Sports cars were closed but antique cars were open so I consider the Turnpike open). I didn't notice the train derailment on Sunday, but we rode the train Sunday night and two trains were operating. We were very lucky that the weather worked out for us and the park was operating completely during our visit. The weather just before and just after our visit would have made it much more difficult. We had a fantastic time, and I'm so glad we got to experience the park at this time of year. The show "Home Sweet Home for the Holidays was terrific and we watched it twice. The park looked great with all the Christmas lights, and I liked how it was transformed for the holidays with special shops, music, decorations, and enclosed eateries. We also visited Zooamerica, Chocolate World, Sweet Lights, and the Antique Auto Museum. Thanks for everyone's comments and ideas before we left. It helped a lot, especially learning about the Hersheypark Mobile website for ride status updates. I never knew about that before.

A note about the crowds...Sunday started easy, but the park became increasingly crowded throughout the day. By evening it was a mob scene. Lines were long even for the restrooms. A security officer said that they expected 3,000 visitors but they were handling 14,000 visitors. I assume the crowd was because it was the last weekend for the season and Saturday was a very rainy day. Monday evening was much less busy with very manageable and pleasant crowds.

SDL was closed around 2pm. I saw some of the maintenance guys playing around with the lift hill.
Flying Falcon closed around 5pm with the ride stopped near the top.
Great Bear was suprisingly open, but was running only 1 train.

    Sunday April 11, 2010
    Sidewinder- Closed
    Thunder- Closed
Fahrenheit- closed when the park first opened, but soon opened and was open the whole day.
Starship America- during the first couple of runs of the day, none of the ships would go up. It was the first time I rode the ride without going up and down. The ride was soon closed to be fixed, then it reopened not long after.

I never agreed with the private parties. While most other regional parks are opening up in late March or early April, Hershey rents their park out. I guess they don't care about the regular park guest like the other parks do. Evil or Very Mad

It works out for the best, because half the time those weekends are washed out because it's really cold or it's a rainy day. And private parties help new rides people adjust to working at the park, because the park isn't nearly as busy as it possibly could be.

Private parties will probably be eliminated eventually, much like the fall dates were swallowed up by the park staying open until the end of September instead of mid-September. I would imagine a good few years down the road, springtime being a month long weekend times event, with the big grand opening the first full weekend of May like it is now.

I've gotten word that it should open this weekend. From what I've heard, it's been close to ready, but they've been waiting for some parts that were delayed in coming in. The rebuilding was completed in April, and it possibly could've opened then, but they were just waiting on parts.

Although Hershey closed off middle rows and had one train runing on many coasters. They really like to make lines.

I hate when they do that. Both Cedar Point AND Kings Island had full trains running on their coasters. Hershey needs to learn off of other parks when it comes to proper ride capacity.

You can't have proper ride capacity when there are not enough people at a given ride to support having rows open. When I worked at the park before, we would always open up rows and the lines would run out in ten minutes. Yes, it's nice for the guests to be able to walk up to rides and ride, but it is rather inconvenient for the operation of the ride to have no lines. It lowers ride capacities rather than raise them because of the time it takes to check empty rows. Is it easier to check at a ride like Lightning Racer? It's probably even. But at a ride like Great Bear? It's best to close off rows (which doesn't happen often). After that, taking a train off would be the next option.

I don't want to sound mean, but is the park really too lazy to check these rows. Closing them and making people wait longer than they should is not right.

To be honest, I don't think I've seen other parks do this (not even the Disney parks). I maybe wrong though. It shouldn't matter about empty rows, I see other parks check them all the time. I do agree with Stormwinder regarding this.

Many rides clsed within the last two hours of operation due to rain.

The park was very crowded because of buses and groups.
