    The Bowling Thread

    Post  Ccron10 on Fri Oct 09, 2009 10:55 pm

Along with theme parks, my other big interest is bowling. Ever since I was 5 years old, I have been heading over to my local bowling alley and as time went by, I've got better. Back in 2001 I stopped and haven't picked up a bowling ball for 5 years until 2006. As a freshman, my school season average was 127, sophmore year was a 186, and my junior year was a 194. Last yeat was my first time on varsity and our team finished 2nd in our division. At the Eastern Pennsylvania Regionals Tournament I finished in 42nd and had a lot of fun competing.
The season runs from December to as early as February or to late as the middle of March and our team starts and practice is technically year-round.
I have high hopes for our team this year as well for myself this season. Here's our schedule and the teams:
    Mon 12/14/09 Daniel Boone : Mifflin 3 Wins / 0 Losses
    Wed 12/16/09 @ Conrad Weiser : Mifflin 2 Wins / 1 Loss
    Thu 12/17/09 Muhlenberg High School : Mifflin 3 Wins / 0 Losses
    Mon 12/21/09 @ Hamburg High School : Mifflin 1 Win / 2 Losses
Tue 12/22/09 Twin Valley High School : Mifflin 2 Wins / 1 Loss
    Wed 01/06/10 @ Exeter High School 4:00PM
    Thu 01/07/10 @ Wilson High School 4:00PM
    Mon 01/11/10 @ Reading High School 4:00PM
    Tue 01/12/10 @ Berks Hazleton 3:45PM
Tue 01/19/10 Schuylkill Valley HS Colonial Berks 4:00PM
    Wed 01/20/10 @ Oley High School 4:00PM
Tue 01/26/10 Wyomissing High School Colonial Berks 4:00PM
    Wed 01/27/10 @ Antietam High School 4:00PM
Tue 02/02/10 Exeter High School Colonial Berks 4:00PM
Wed 02/03/10 Wilson High School Colonial Berks 4:00PM
Thu 02/04/10 Reading High School Colonial Berks 4:00PM
    Tue 02/09/10 @ Hazleton Bowl Arena 3:00PM
Once the season starts, this schedule will be updated with the scores, wins and losses.
This season is going to be one hell of a ride! Wink

I bowled in a Saturday morning league at Trindle Bowl in Mechanicsburg from 2003 to early 2009. I couldn't continue due to marching band commitments. But, my high score is pretty much a 160, and I can usually get at least 100.

Can't believe I missed this post. I love to bowl in my free time, too, though not competitively. I usually get around 120, my high being 190 or 180-something. I've taken up riflery right now as something to do in my free time, too, besides keeping up with my hobbies. : P

I have updated the schedule and added 3 new tournaments and 2 new matches (Scrimmages). Looks like we will be bowling against Hazleton twice with us heading up there to face them once.

We had practice today and I think I rolled pretty well. I got a 234, 160, 234 and 244. I kind of messed up on the 160 because I accidentally changed to a different bowling ball and got 3 splits in a row. I was the only lefty bowling on the lanes and if I just kept using the same ball that game, I probably would've had another 230 game. I learned my lesson on that one.

Well, on Sunday after Nationals (marching band), we went bowling and I managed a 119 with a house ball.

Very nice scores, for both of you. I don't even own my own ball : P

Practice has been picking up lately and so have my scores. Today I rolled a 206, 201, 217, and 181. I have been lately rolling low to mid 200's and did manage to get a 249 on Monday.
I have another practice on Friday, Satuday, Sunday, next Tuesday, Wednesday, a practice match at Elizabethtown and on Friday. From there, next Saturday will be the Icebreaker Classic Tournament at Leisure Lanes in Columbia.
At this point I have no idea if I am bowling Varsity or Junior Varsity, but I hope its the first one.
Here's a link to the county bowling site as well as the score sheet for this year and last year. My name is Chris Cronrath for Gov. Mifflin.

Today was our first official match of the season. Our opponent today was Daniel Boone which let me say was one of those teams that wern't easy to beat, but they wern't easy either.
Our first game was very close (by 15 points), but we took that win as "an early X-Mas present". That game I scored a 210 and a teamate scored a 266.

The second game came easier. The difference was around 50 points. I scored a 218 that game and a different teamate scored a 266.

The last game had to be the best so far. The difference had to be 100 points and I pretty much scored the highest this one with a 237 with another teamate scoring 234.

Our team total so far was 3129 points I believe and my series was a 665. Right now I have a 221 average starting up the season.

Tomorrow we face Conrad Weiser which I believe will be a decent test for us to see if our team can bring on the heat.

Last week started out good, went down hill a little, and ended on a high-note for us. my friend Nick shot a perfect game (300) last Tuesday against Conrad Weiser.
I didn't do too well in that match and shot a 573 series causing my 224 average to drop to a 204. Luckly I bowled JV for the Muhlenburg match which allowed me to fix some stuff and bowled a 699 series during that.
On Monday we had a match against Hamburg up at their lanes which were pretty classic. The scoring system was not automatic, the machines looked like they were from the 1950's and the lanes were dimpled and were all wooden (most lanes are synthetic these days). The first game I shot was a 194 and our team lost that one.
The second game I got 11 strikes in a row! Got to the last ball in the 10th frame, came in low and left a split and ended up with a 297 game! cheers My last game was a 182 and ended up with a 672 series. This caused my average to go up to a 211.

Yesterday we had our last match of the year against Twin Valley. I shot a 258 the first game (we won this one), a 209 the second game (won that one as well), and a 239 the last game (we lost that one) and ended up with a 701 series which made my average go up to 216. A great way to finish the first half of the season.

Over X-Mas break I plan on bowling in a tournament tomorrow morning, leagues this Saturday and the next, practice on Sunday then bowl some games sometime next week on and off.

Well, the bowling season is over for me and I have good news. I finished tied for 2nd in Berks County with a 213 average over 45 games bowled. I am qualified for bowling in the County Singles Tournament, District III Playoff's Tournament (held in Harrisburg), and Eastern Pennsylvania Regionals.
My bestfriend/gf is doing even better than me. She is first in the county and is qualified for everything I am.

Wish us luck! We have our first tournament next week and I'll be sure to keep you updated!
